    Great powder for my AR15

    Verified Buyer

I use 4895 in my AR15 handloads with 80 gr Nosler custom competition bullets to help me hit the X ring at 600 yards

  3. TY

One of my favourite gun powders to use.

  4. Ted

There is something to be said for versatility, and h4895 has it in spades. It shoots fantastically in my .308, and was my runner-up accuracy powder in 30/30, 300 Savage, and 250 Savage. It never hurts to keep a bit around as a backup powder imo, just in case the primary powder gets scarce for a whole, or goes out of production. In my experience, 4895 is rarely THE most accurate powder in a cartridge, but it never shoots poorly, either, so it’s one of my favorites for midsized rifle cartridges, and a good starter powder for newly aquired rifles.

  7. Ruben Valdez

i use it once a week when i’m in my firetruck.

  8. Ryan

I will purchase this product again

I have used quite a bit of IMR 4895 in my .204 Ruger, .223 Rem, and .308 Win rifles. It consistently delivers excellent accuracy along with excellent speed with most bullet weights in those calibers. Always a good choice. However, since I now live in a place with wild temperature variations, I have been noticing shifts with IMR 4895. I decided to try H4895 since it is less temperature sensitive. I have noticed no loss of accuracy or speed with H4895, and the temp stability is a big plus in its favor. It also meters quite well and there is no need to weigh each charge unless you are going to a shooting match. Would work well if you are doing a lot of loads in a progressive loader. Usually get better speed and accuracy than IMR 8208 XBR, but that powder is a good substitute if you run out of H4895, and it meters a bit more accurately due to its smaller grain size, so in a progressive loader you might see no loss of accuracy at all. H4895, like IMR 4895, is a truly great and versatile powder in US military cartridges, and a lot of others as well. I intend to always have some in the powder stash.

I’m a Coyote Hunter living in CA i have taken hundreds of Coyotes over the years on Cattle Ranches using my custom Remington 700 .17 Remington i have used 23.4 grains of H4895 exclusively…. in the last 10 years this powder has given me the best results & the tightest groups, i shot a 3 shot group measuring 1/4 inch @ 250 yards using LEE COLLET DIES i absolutely love this powder it works great with Hornady 25 grain V-max driven around 4025fps it kills coyotes like lightning this bullet must be used in a 1-9 twist barrel. also this powder is from extreme extruded family of powders that means it doesn’t change with temperature variance but i found that it does slightly it shoots about 30fps slower in winter than summer. please approach the above velocity with caution be safe.

  11. BRIAN

Worked well for me in the 22-250 with lighter AND heavier pills. I recently had the rifle rebarreld to a no-turn .20-250 and h4895 is still giving great accuracy. 37.2gr and the 28gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos bullet is giving 1/2″ groups at 100 yards. PLEASE USE CAUTION with my load data as this is a wildcat cartridge and not much info is available for loads this light.

  12. KELVIN

Consistent, tight groups at 100 yards with my 45-70. 58.5 grains to 325gr FTX bullets. Little more recoil than the LEVERevolutions, but worth it down range. Too bad I only get about 110 round per pound of powder

  13. william C

42.5 grains of H4895 pushing a 180 grain bullet out of my .308win,I put 5 rounds in side a nickel @ 100 yards all day long…

  14. DAN

I’ve used this powder from .30 cal to .223, all with good results. Awesome .308 win. choice. Sub moa in my bolt gun.

  15. JP

    Great Versatilre Powder
I had excellent results with H4895 in 30-30, 303 British and 30-06. Great for lighter bullets and reduced loads. Loaded some Hornady 130 grain SPs over about 34 grains of H4895 for my Savage 340 in 30-30 which turned out to be a super accurate and effective 200 yard whitetail load, and deadly on the smaller pigs as well. I don’t have a chrono but I’m guessing it was about 2350-2400fps out of the 21″ barrel. I loaded the same 130 grain bullet over about 52 grains for my tang safety M77 30-06, and it was also very accurate and deadly. Both loads were extremely easy to shoot, with low recoil and blast. I tried a 150 grain Hornady Interlock SP over several charges of H4895 in my 17″ barreled .303B Lee Enfield, and it was also quite pleasant shooting but with only decent accuracy. I’m still working on an accurate load for that rifle.

  16. Peter

    Great Powder
I got lucky with my first loading with .233Rem with this powder without doing ladder loads. I randomly decided to go with 24.8gr of H4895 behind a 60gr Nosler Ballistic tip with CCI 450 small magnum primers, with a variety of brass both .223 and 5.56 and I’m consistently getting under 1/2″ groups with an AR I built with a Ballistic Advantage (Hanson) 1:8 twist 18″ barrel.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW TO RELOADING CENTER-FIRE METALLIC CARTRIDGES & WISH TO START WITH LIGHT-RECOILING “REDUCED POWER LOADS”, THIS IS ONE OF THE ONLY APPROVED POWDERS SUITABLE FOR THIS CHORE. IT IS CALLED “THE 60% CALCULATION RULE” & HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT: #1–LOCATE THE CARTRIDGE & BULLET WEIGHT YOU WISH TO RELOAD IN A REPUTABLE RELOADING MANUAL. #2–LOCATE THE MAX-LOAD OF THIS POWDER & CALCULATE WHAT 60% OF THE MAX WOULD BE AND THAT IS THE LIGHTEST POWDER CHARGE TO BEGIN WITH !!!! HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS & THE RESULTS WILL PLEASANTLY SURPRISE YOU——OOORAH !!!!!!!

  18. KILLIAN

The H4895 is my go-to daily powder. i use it regularly.

  19. Denison

    Ecellent product

  20. Adrian

H4895 excels at reduced loads. Going by the 60% rule from Hodgdon, you can mix up very reasonable, easy-shooting loads for long-action calibers. This makes an excellent “Krag-imitator” load for 30-06. My best is actually a 40gr load behind a 170gr 30-30fp in an old M1917 pushing 2300fps; right on the max velocity for this bullet. Same powder charge works great in my H&R single behind a 170gr Hdy RN as well.

  21. Nicholas

    THE ONLY POWDER I USE
I’ve used H4895 exclusively in my .303 British loads for over 10 years. It’s extremely accurate and consistent over a huge range of conditions, from Colorado snowstorms to the Arizona desert.

  22. davidson

I have tried many powders and weights for the .204 Ruger This after lots of time and testing works best for me.

  23. Diva

    Customer friendly and very reliable.

  24. JOHN J

I load a range of cartridges with this powder. It is very forgiving and at least reasonably accurate in every rifle I load for (223, 270, 7-08, 30-06, 30-30 and 243) The best part is the versatility – Basicaly works good in any common rifle cartridge and you can do reduced loads without the chance of dangerous pressures or erratic ignition from too little powder. This all means that one powder can load everything you have. The worst part is that this stuff is very dirty and leaves lots of carbon fouling.

  25. Lary

After shooting a bunch of powders with 142 MatchKings in a HOWA 6.5 Creedmoor with a 22” sporter weight barrel, it seems that H4895 is the ticket for that barrel length. thanks to espress gun store, i am able to get a reasonable quantity.

  26. JAMES

I use H4895 to load for 223 with medium weight bullets (53 Grains). In a couple of different rifles it produces better accuracy than anything else I have tried, and I have tried 2230, 4320, BLC(2) , 3031, etc

  27. Willy

This is the go-to powder for my .308 win. Unfortunately, it is hard to find. The chronograph proves it is consistent from bottle to bottle, not unusual to have standard deviation reading below 6.0
